Dance: Grupo Corpo at BAM
In a week where the thermometer finally rising above 12 degrees is considered a warming trend, thoughts of warm weather and sultry climates abound. What better timing for the arrival of Grupo Corpo, the sensational dance troupe from Brazil, led by Rodrigo Pederbeiras. His “Gira” piece at BAM incorporated Brazilian religions like umbamda and Candoble, plus dance moves from Capoeira, in some of the most perfectly choreographed, athletic busted moves I’ve seen—well, since the heyday of Pele or Neymar anyway. And the sexy, half-naked dancers confirmed what we knew from visiting Rio years ago—Brazilians have great bodies and love showing them off. Hey, no problem for us. Music by Meta Meta (really really). Viva Brasil! (Saturday)
