President Woodrow Wilson’s 1918 Fourteen Points was a statement of principles for peace that was to be used for peace negotiations in order to end World War I.
Wilson is gone, but I’m still here, so please indulge me as I outline mine.
1. Dems made the mistake of enabling Biden, a competent but enfeebled president, instead of convincing him to overcome his selfish desire to hold onto power. I blame Jill Biden too.
2. Harris faced significant headwinds including Gaza, an endless war in Ukraine, and good old-fashioned misogyny and racism. She did a fantastic job in a near-impossible situation.
3. A record high stock market and record low unemployment did nothing to dissuade voters who were mad that their box of Fruity Pebbles rose to $10.
4. Exit polls showed that Trumpers were mad at us “elites,” and that we don’t care about their sufferings. If you consider me an elite, you don’t know the real Aug.
5. And to be perfectly frank, I care about them as much as they care about people like me, which is to say little or not at all. Sorry/not sorry.
6. I am sure Tim Walz’s act as America’s coach may have endeared himself to Harris but am not sure it boosted the ticket significantly.
7. People don’t care about bigoted jokes as much as they care about transexuals getting sex changes in gender non-binary school bathrooms.
8. Nor do they care about felony convictions. Congrats America on reelecting DJT, our first Convict-American president.
9. The things that horrify us most about him endear him to his fans even more. I can’t even.
10. Low-information voters are the key to winning elections. So are blustery machismo, incoherence and lies. Forget reason and intelligence. How did that work out for you, Adlai Stevenson?
11. I am in the unenviable position of hoping 47 stays alive because of the junior fascist who will succeed him, at which point I fear we will be truly lost.
12. I know I should be thinking of doing something positive to address this situation but right now, like most of you, I just want to lick my wounds. Again sorry/not sorry.
13. On a positive note, the sun will rise tomorrow and there will always be G and Bike.
14. God Bless America.
Correction: if he passed before Jan 20, Vance would not be installed - there would have to be a whole new election. Vance is his successor only after Jan 20. So there is still a hypothetical chance of a re-do.
I value all your points. I agree with all of them.
