In 1973, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, and Haskell Wexler collaborated on a little jewel of a film called "American Graffiti". Given the utterly rotten inflight selection on United--can you believe there's a film called "Liza the Fox Fairy"?--I decided to watch AG again.
I am happy to report that 43 years later, I giggled, sang along, smiled like an idiot, and pounded my tray table so hard I thought we'd have to make an emergency landing in Greenland.
Thank you, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Paul LeMat, Candy Clark, Harrison Ford, and Mackenzie Phillips for reminding me how great flicks used to be before the Star Wars era began. As Norma Desmond was reported to say, We didn't need CGI back then; we had talent.
(PS in case you were wondering, I was the Richard Dreyfus character. Sorta.) -Wednesday)
"43 years later"? It's been 50 years! I loved it! I remember thinking at the time that the guy in the white hat who played Bob Falfa really had something extra and could very well be a huge star. Too bad I didn't work for William Morris.
I watched it again a few years ago and was similarly transported (literally and figuratively). On another note, thanks for the rec of “In Bruges”. I watched it yesterday on Starz. Another brilliant collaboration of Colin and Brendon.
