Netflix: “Heartstopper,” season 3
The big question in “Heartstopper, Season 3 (Netflix) is: when are they gonna—ahem—hop into bed? “They” are Nick (Kit Connor), the handsome bisexual HS rugby player, and Charlie (Joe Locke), his nerdy drummer BF.
Good news, fans: seems they are finally getting around to saying the “love” word. But they aren’t quite sure how to proceed from there.
These’s plenty else the guys have to think about first. Charlie has an eating disorder which is upsetting to his parents because Charlie already weighs only about 90 pounds soaking wet. Plus, Nick, a year older than Charlie, is considering uni in far-off Leeds, and worries if this will jeopardize their budding romance.
Teenage angst of every sort drives HS-S4. Tao (William Gao) and his trans GF Elle (Jasmin Finney) become lovers. Elle however is evolving outside her HS bubble and for the first time is being disrespected because of her sexuality. Charlie’s sourpuss sister Tori (Jenny Walser) finally has a sort of BF but is hesitant to actually label him as such.
I like the fact that the show is set in a progressive London suburb where every parent and fellow student seems so accepting of LGBTQ high schoolers. It’s just that it strains credulity to this OK Boomer. As for whether or not Charlie and Nick ever—ahem—hop into bed, you’ll have to watch the show. Just be advised that “Heartstopper,” based on Alice Osman’s YA graphic novels, is so chaste your grandmother will scarcely raise an eyebrow.
